College of Health Sciences
The College of Health Sciences was established in 1991, a year after the foundation faculties of the university, i.e. Faculties of Engineering, Management Sciences, Agriculture, and Pure and Applied Sciences were established. The first Provost of the College, Professor Toriola Solanke (of blessed memory) was appointed in October,1991. At the expiration of his tenure in September 1993, he was succeeded by Prof. B. Familusi, a renowned paediatrician from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Ibadan. After a tenure of one year, Professor Familusi resigned his appointment thus paving the way for the appointment of Professor O. Ogunbode as the Provost in 1995.
Initial efforts were concentrated on developing the preclinical sciences and due to a number of constraints, the Teaching hospital was not ready at the time the first intake was to commence their clinical training. Therefore, the students were farmed out to sister colleges of Medicine/Health Sciences for their clinical training. In 1993, the Osun State Government acquired a private facility, the Mercyland Hospital, Dada Estate, and made it an Annex of the State Hospital, Osogbo which later became the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. The Mercyland Hospital served as the temporary site of the clinical and laboratory departments as well as an annex of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital until 2005, when the College moved to its permanent site at Isale Osun, Asubiaro, Oshogbo.
Clinical programs for the first set of medical students began on 27th April 1998 when the first set of 36 students started their training at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo and since then, the college has produced many medical doctors.
