Students are admitted into the pre-degree science programme after obtaining the application forms and successfully passing the entrance examinations. Also intending students are required to possess at least five 'O' level credits in relevant subjects or as prescribed by the pre-degree board.

The University Senate proposed the Pre-Degree Science Programme in May 1994. The Proposal was in response to the need for a refresher course to prepare secondary school leavers for their first year and subsequent years of study in the University. See History for details.

One of the objectives of the programme is to provide opportunity of University Education for applicants who could not be admitted to the University Education through UME due low scores in the UME .

Pre-Degree Science Students as well as others students in the University in general are expected to pay due respect and obedience to the Vice Chancellor, the Officers and Lecturers in the University, the Pre-Degree Science Programme Board and Instructors.

Each student is expected to be orderly at all times and never to be found acting in a manner likely to bring the University and the programme into disrepute. All students should refrain from acts of violence, destruction to the University's properties and from joining secret cults.

Pre-Degree Science Students are not undergraduate students of the University and therefore, cannot join the LAUTECH Student Union.
